Hi, I'm Mark
I enjoy exploring the history of Nottinghamshire and the surrounding area through responsible metal detecting.I believe responsible metal detecting starts with respect - for the countryside, the landowner and the history beneath our feet.
| Respect | History | Trust |
|---|---|---|
| I treat every permission with care and I leave every field exactly as I found it | I help uncover Nottinghamshire's rich history, one discovery at a time | I am fully insured and work to build trusted relationships with landowners |
A Message for Landowners
Firstly, thank you for taking the time to visit my website! If you are considering allowing me to detect on your land I'd like to explain my approach to detecting, how you benefit, tell you more about me and hopefully answer any questions you have.I understand that giving someone permission to access your land is a privilege and I never take that trust for granted!

The benefits for you . .
Responsible metal detecting brings benefits to you as a landowner, including:
๐ฟ Improving Your Land's Health
Rural land often accumulates waste metal over the years - iron, bolts, bits of wire and more. All waste metal I find will be carefully removed and responsibly disposed of, leaving your land cleaner and healthier
๐ณ Reporting Land Issues
If you want me to, I can tell you about any damage or issues with your fencing, crops, pathways, trees, vegetation or anything else I see as I move around the field
๐ Valuable Finds
If I discover valuable items such as jewellery or items of historical significance, I'll let you know and bring them to you. I'll also make sure all legal reporting requirements are dealt with correctly
. . and my own personal values
Metal detecting is my way of enjoying the countryside and learning more about our local history. My personal values are:
๐ฟ Respect For Your Land
I'll always take care not to disturb your crops, buildings, equipment or livestock. I'll check gates are secured and I'll always keep only to the areas you specify as accessible land
๐งน Leave No Trace
Each plug I dig is done using a specialised tool, replaced carefully and the ground left tidy. I aim always to leave no trace and to have all dig points be practically invisible
๐ก๏ธ Fully Insured and Legally Compliant
I hold NCMD (National Council for Metal Detecting) membership, ยฃ10m Public Liability Insurance, a recent and clean DBS check certificate and I am fully compliant with all UK laws, including the Treasure Act. All this helps make sure you and I are fully protected
A little bit about me
I think it's important you have some background on the person requesting permission to detect on your land - so here's some information about me:
I live in the Rushcliffe area of Nottinghamshire with my family and our lovely little Cockapoo

By day, I work in Data and Risk Management for a national surveying company. So detecting is a great way for me to get out, enjoy some fresh air and discover some interesting finds
โโโโโโโโ โฆ โโโโโโโโ
History has always been a passion for me - from Ancient Rome (that's me at the Colusseum!) to the buildings near to where I live, it's all endlessly fascinating!

Aside from detecting and history, I'm a keen aviation enthusaist and photographer - I'm very happy spending many hours at airports and aviation museums!

Frequently Asked Questions
You may have questions, and I've covered some common ones here. If you want to know anything I haven't covered, feel free to drop me an email using the form below and I'll get back to you as soon as I can
- Will my fields be damaged?
Not at all. All dig points are made using a 'plug' method, so the ground is returned exactly as it was. Any dig points are practically invisible!
- Will I be contacted repeatedly?
No. I'll only contact you as often or little as you specify, no more and no less. And I will always tell you about any valuable finds I have discovered
- Can I come and watch?
Absolutely! You are more than welcome to watch, supervise or even have a go at detecting yourself!
- Will other people be detecting with you?
No. I detect alone and I don't belong to any detecting clubs, so I will be the only person on site
- Are you insured to detect on my land?
Yes, I have ยฃ10m Public Liability Insurance with NCMD (National Council for Metal Detecting), and I am fully compliant with the UK Treasure Act
- Is it easy to agree a permission with you?
Yes, very! I'll confirm everything in a letter to you, including all restrictions or stipulations you want adding. It's as easy as that!
- Can I stop the permission whenever I want?
Of course! I will always respect your decision as the landowner - if you want to stop the permission at any time, just let me know
